Under the title Museum of Opacities, on June 6, 2023, the Museum of Civilizations presents the new chapter dedicated to the ongoing re-contextualization of the collections and the museal narrations: a unit of works of art and documents from the former Colonial Museum of Rome, that became part of the Museum of Civilizations' collections from 2017 currently ondergoing re-cataloguing, are put in dialogue with works of contemporary art that also include new acquisitions made possible by
PAC-Plan for contemporary art by Ministry of Culture, and new productions realized thanks to residency processes, in the context of Taking Care-Ethnographic and World Cultures Museums as Spaces of Care, supported by the Creative Europe program by European Union.
The exhibition was curated by Gaia
Delpino, Rosa Anna Di Lella and Matteo Lucchetti and features artwork by Bianca Baldi, Rossella Biscotti, Alaqā Brahānē, Achille Dardano, Agegnehu Engida, Theo Eshetu, Peter Friedl, Jermay Michael Gabriel, Édouard Glissant, Luca Guadagnino, Wissal Houbabi with Ismael "Astri" Lo and Toi Giordani, Adelita Husni Bey, Scipione Losio, Francis Offman, Malak Yacout, Balacciaw Yimar, Eduardo Ximenes and features interventions by the research fellows Sammy Baloji, DAAR- Sandi Hilal and Alessandro Petti.
